To look more attractive, there are some people who are trying to lose weight as much as possible, and one of the fastest and instant way that they believe is by wearing tight clothes. They believe that by wearing tight clothes, their body fat will be compressed and hidden, giving them a more idealized appearance. However, this is essentially incorrect since wearing tight clothing would actually increase body fat. When using tight clothes, it will be challenging for us to move since the clothing are pressing on our body fat. The body will burn less fat during that time, and fat will actually store beneath the skin. In addition, the use of tight clothes for a long period can slow down the blood circulation and disrupt the work of the body parts, because the organs in the body are being restricted. Sugar and fat metabolism in the body will also be disrupted and it may change the blood glucose levels were uncontrolled, which could be the early symptoms of diabetes.
The materials in clothing, particularly those that are tight fitting, can have a number of effects on the skin:
- Physical discomfort: Tight clothes can restrict movement and dig into your skin, which can be annoying and even painful. Wearing tight clothing made from low absorbent materials during physical activity can cause a condition called miliaria to develop. This is blockage and inflammation of the sweat ducts.
- Miliaria
- Skin irritation: Pressure and friction from clothing can cause skin to become irritated and appear red with slight swelling often leading to an itching or burning sensation. The area of irritation may have a change in pigmentation and scaling which are the first signs of the development of pressure ulcers. Heat and moisture can build up under tight fitting clothing creating an environment conductive to the growth of fungi. The most common infections are ringworm and yeast infections. Growth of the organisms on the skin may result in worsening of the infection and possibly infection of the hair follicles (folliculitis).
- Folliculitis
- Digestive issues: Tight waistbands can put pressure on your stomach and intestines, leading to heartburn, acid reflux, or bloating.
- Health problems: In extreme cases, very tight clothing can compress nerves, leading to a condition called meralgia paresthetica which causes numbness and tingling in the outer thigh.
If you're feeling uncomfortable, there are easy fixes! Try:
- Looser clothing: Opt for clothes that fit comfortably and allow for movement.
- Different fabrics: Look for breathable fabrics like cotton or linen that allow for better airflow.
- Strategic tightness: Maybe you only want a fitted look in certain areas. Try a flowy top with skinny jeans or vice versa.
